CORDILLERA HUAYHUASH

HUAYHUASH MATACANCHA  - LLAMAC TREK

Difficulty: Moderate to Difficult.
DURATION : 09 Days

Trekking Season: May to September.

Itinerary

Day 1: leave from Huaraz in bus ti Huayanca , you depart for Matacancha (3250) where  the donkeys and donkey driver  are going to wait the group and walk to Mitococha Lake. (4100). The walk lasts about 4 - 5 hours

Day 2 : Mitococha Lake (4100) – Carhuacocha Lake (4138). The walk lasts for about 5 – 6 hours. This walk takes you over your second pass, known as Carhuac point (4650). You descend through the valley and arrive at our campsite - Carhuacocha. There are panoramic views of “Jirishanca”, “Yerupaja” and “Toro” mountains from the campsite.

 

Day 3 : Carhuacocha  Lake (4138) - Huayhuash (4100). The walk lasts about 6 - 7 hours. You walk over your third pass  - Carnicero (4600). You descend down the valley to the Atocshaico and Carnicero lakes. Again you can observe the snow capped peaks of Siula, Jural, Carnicero and Trapecio.

Day 4 : Huayhuash (4100) – Viconga Lake (4407). The walk lasts about 5 to 6 hours. You walk over the Portachuelo pass (4750). Here you can see the snow capped mountains of Puscanturpa, Cuyoc, Millpo, and part of the Cordillera Raura. You arrive at the Viconga camp site (4300). Later you can relax, by taking advantage of the thermal baths at Atuscancha (4000).

Day 5 : Viconga Lake (4407) – Guanacpatay (3900). This walk lasts about 4 to 5 hours. You trek over the Cuyoc pass (5000). This is the highest point of the whole trek. Descend to the campsite at Guanacpatay.

Day 6 : Guanacpatay (3900) - Huayllapa (3600) This walk lasts about 5 to 6 hours. You descend through the Guanacpatay valley. At the bottom of the valley, you pass through a small town – Auquimarca - where they make cheese. You continue your walk until you arrive at the small town of Huayllapa.

Day 7 : Huayllapa (3600) - Jashapampa (4700 – base camp for the Diablo Mudo). This walk lasts about 5 to 6 hours. You trek over your 6th pass - the Tapush point (4900). You can see mountains such as “Auxilio”, “Diablo Mudo”, etc.

Day 8 : This day we will leave from  the Diablo mudo camp and we will go up to the Yaucha pass (4800).

Both routes then descend through the “Haucrish valley” ravine from where you can see the Hirishanca and Yerupaja glaciers. You arrive at lake Jahuacocha where you camp for the night

 

Day 9 : Lake Jahuacocha (4066) - Llamac (3250). This walk lasts about 5 to 6 hours. You trek over the last pass, called Pampa de Llamac (4300). You can observe for the last time the snow capped mountains of the Cordillera Huayhuash. Later you make you way towards Chiquián (3400) along the same path on which you started your journey.
Finally, you are transported from Chiquián to Huaraz, where your adventure comes to an end.

 

EXPEDITION COSTS INCLUDE:
- When you arrive to huaraz we pick up you to the hotel by taxi.
- 2 nights lodging in Huaraz (double bed, breakfast included)
- Huaraz and private local transportation Huaraz - Chiquian -Llamac - Cajatambo- Huaraz.
- Mountain guide, porters and cook.
- Donkeys to carry the common gear (tents, food and fuel) as well as donkeys to carry personal gear (up to 20 kg per person)
- More than 4 pax include an emergency horse.
- Kitchen gear and cooking facilities at Camping (including dining tent, chairs, cooking tent).
- Food for the whole duration of the Trek (breakfast, lunch and dinner) is included.
*The meals include: omelets, sups, fresh fruits, ahuacate, spaghettis meats, rice all them rich in carbohydrates, excellent to recover all the energy you lose during the trek and climbing, also include drinks as: tea, coffee, milk breads, popcorn and coco tea good for altitude sickness.)
- Camping gear: 4 season tent
- First aid kit
- Check-up for oxygen to assess acclimatization level of each client.
- Entry to National Park Huayhuash.

Not included:
- Personal trekking and climbing gear (sleeping bag, sleeping mattress etc..)
- Personal expenses.

Recommended gear:
Lightweight walking shoes/sandals/socks/pants/short pants/T-shirts (long sleeve and short sleeve)/sunglasses/sunscreen/plastic bags/warm sleeping bag /light weight trekking boots/wool socks/light weight treeking pants/waterproof pants and jacket/fleece/Goretex/hat/mits or warm gloves/thermal liners/camera/bandana or hat against sun/headlamp with extra batteries.
Safety Individual gear:
Glacier glasses 100% UV with rigid case (2 pair recommended)/ goggles/ sunscreen with maximum protection/lipbalm/4 season sleeping bag/ sleeping pad or thermarest/hat/thermal underwear/fleece jacket/fleece pants/down jacket/Goretex jacket or similar material/2 pairs of gloves or mittens/ pair of thermal glove liners/2 pairs of thermal sock liners/plastic boots/gaiters.
