Peru - Trekking Lake 69 - Wilcahuain

Itineray:
We drive from Huaraz to Wilcahuain by bus. At Wilcahuain we start our trip. At first we visit the archaeological ruins, which lasts from the pre-inca-time. The ruins pretend to the Culture Wasi. This culture takes its roots in Ayacucho. After that we visit another village, it is called San Miguel de Recriash. From here we descend for one tour to reach the hot springs of Monterrey. There we can take a bath before we return to Huaraz. |

First day: We leave Huaraz by bus to Yungay (2.500m) and lead from there to the east of the Cordillera Blanca. Then we reach the mountain ravine of Llanganuco where we see the both lakes of Llanganuco (Chinacocha and Orconcocha). After that we pass through to Cebollapampa (3.900m). Here we start our walk ascending to the pass of Portachuelo (4.767m). From the pass we have a very beautiful view to the mountains of Huascaran, Huandoy, Chopicalqui, Pisco and Chacraraju. Now we descend to the camping of Cebollapampa. |
Second day: Trekking to Lake 69 – Huaraz
From the camping-site of Cebollapampa we start our walk to Lake 69. It takes us about 4 hours to reach the beautiful lake at the bottom of the mountain Chacaraju. We return to the camping-site of Cebollapampa and catch the bus to Huaraz. |
